Working in the beauty industry has brought me to some key realizations about skincare for 20s. If you’re wanting to age like a fine wine, you’ve got to put in the leg work in your 20s. I’m 22 years old and it’s safe to say I walked into this blind, however, through the guidance of mistakes made by my mentors (now in their 30s), I’ve conjured up a list of the ingredients about skincare for 20s products.
Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Niacinamide
You’re seeking out plump and voluminous skin; hyaluronic acid delivers results. This is something that lives naturally in our skin, and unfortunately, with age, we lose it in dramatic amounts. That fact, paired with gravity hard at work, means we lose that youthful plump look and feel in our skin.
A fun fact about Hyaluronic acid?
That’s actually what is used in injectables to make our skin look so fabulous. I’m going to leave you to marinate with that fact.
Moving on to the wonderful effects of Niacinamide! Also known as Vitamin B3, it can be used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, treat hyperpigmentation and melasma, as well as shrink pores and blemishes.
Why shouldn’t you have the best of both worlds? Try the Hydrating Serum 30ml.
Vitamin C’s role in skincare for 20s
A great thing to remember is that you need to invest in anti-aging products a lot earlier than you think. A good way to step into this world is by using Vitamin C; it protects your skin against stress, sun damage, pollution, and free radicals.
Free radicals?
I knew you’d ask. Free radicals are molecules that age the skin on a daily basis; they cause a loss of firmness in the skin, wrinkles, and fine lines.
For a serum that gives you that ‘brightness from within’ type of skin, I recommend getting the Brightening Vitamin C Serum 30ml.
Retinol
Retinol is a holy grail product. It truly transforms your skin into this firm and supple surface. It’s on this list because collagen production starts to slow down in your 20s – this is the protein that keeps your skin firm and plump. When it reduces you start to form fine lines and wrinkles.
The great thing about retinol is that it hits so many of our main skin concerns- addressing hyperpigmentation, blackheads, dark spots, large pores, and inflammation. It also increases collagen production, which means firmer and younger-looking skin!
Dermatologists also recommend incorporating Renewing Serum 30ml into your skincare regime in your 20s!
The Double Cleanse
If you haven’t been double cleansing, you’re about to start! The double cleanse gives you a complete and deep cleanse. There is a lot of build-up on the skin throughout the day, especially for us make-up lovers, and only cleansing once isn’t as effective.
So how exactly can you go about doing a double cleanse?
It involves using a Cleansing Cream 125ml to break down make-up, SPF, and sebum on the surface of your skin first, then following it with deeper water or gel-based cleanser.
Skin Tip #1: A great way to save the product and get a proper cleanse would be to use a cleaning mitt for application!
Moisturise
Moisturising is a great way to keep your skin balanced and happy, it stops your skin from becoming too oily or too dry – both of which can result in becoming more acne-prone. It also helps your skin look younger for longer, I’ve learned that a good hydrating or balancing moisturizer restores skin that’s been shed throughout the day. I recommend this Hydrating Moisturiser 60ml.
Skin Tip #2: Make sure to layer on some SPF after you apply moisturizer, your skin will thank you!
Eye Cream
Don’t skimp out on showing your under eyes some love! It’s a small part of your face, but it’s central and makes a big difference when it’s treated to some TLC.
Being in your 20s involves a lot of long nights, for more than just work and studies! This usually ends up in dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. We deserve to have our cake and eat it too, so I treated myself to the miracle of a Rejuvenating Eye Cream 15ml, it’s great for when I’m about to head to bed and need something to work its magic overnight.
Skin Tip #3: A great lightweight alternative for daytime use, or just under your makeup is the Refreshing Eye Gel 15ml.
Facial Mist
I know this seems a little silly, but Facial Mist 125ml are all about how you feel. Yes, they give you the benefit of a hydrating primer for make-up application and are great for the first thing in the morning when you want gentle hydration that leaves you feeling fresh.
But I love how they smell and how fresh I feel when using them! I love to have the ease of access to it so I just slip it into my bag.
Facial Rollers
There’s a lot of talk about facial roller and I can say with confidence that they work! Firstly, I want to express how incredibly calming it is to have these cooling stones running over your skin after a long day. It is super soothing and stress relieving, which is a win in itself.
Besides just feeling good, the use of facial rollers improves lymphatic flow and drainage, as well as blood flow. The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from body tissues.
It also aids the application of product to the skin, giving it a smoother finish and saving you more product, as nothing is absorbed by the rollers!
Sulfate-free Shampoo
You probably hear people raving about sulfate-free shampoo, speaking of sulfate-induced horrors they’ve gone through. Well, I’m here to lay it out clearly for you.
The reason people want to avoid sulfates is that they strip natural oils from the scalp and hair. This results in brittle and dry hair. If you happen to have a sensitive scalp, it can cause you itching, redness, and overall irritation.
Sulfate-free shampoos help to retain your hair’s natural shine and help to avoid frizziness and dryness. Make the switch!
Hydrating Hair Mask
For some people, using just a Shampoo and Conditioner is enough. I used to think I was one of those people, but I’ve since come to my senses!
Initially, I was a skeptic, but at the push of my colleagues I added a hair mask into my routine and I haven’t looked back since. There are different hair masks catered to different air types, but I know most hair could use an extra bit of moisture. So, if you’re not sure where to start, start with the Intense Hydrating Mask 1000ml!
Maybe you’ll start on this list and find your own way around how you show your skin some love. Though, I doubt you’ll stray too far because I’ve listed some incredible skincare for 20s products. That’s a wrap on what I’ve learned on my haircare and skincare journey in my 20s!
